Music generated media

Either bands/artists aren’t making enough money to produce their own videos, or they have gone into a CGM/Web 2.0 spree, and started asking users to create their music videos. The latest one that i remember of was from Incubus, and had one portuguese winner, Carlos Oliveira.

Innocence Bjork

Now Bjork came up with the idea of asking users to create a clip for “Volta“. The song is “Innocence” and you can download the assets (photos, lyrics and mp3) and create the video until August. Since no prize is announced, probaly only hard-core fans and video jockeys will be interested.

Lately this CGM buzz starts to seem a lot like a designer’s spec work, where we (consumers) do all the work and the content owners reward us with promises of fame.

Mentos Art

After the Eeppy Bird success, Mentos is trying the CGM thing again with MakeArtPop.ca where users are invited to create some interesting Mentos art pieces.

The rise of bloggers

“If you can’t beat them, join them”, was perhaps the recurring thought at DuPont, one of the largest industrial companies in the USA, as they closed the deal to a series of science stories with Amanda Congdom, one of the blogs superstars and former videocast hostess at RocketBoom.

Amanda Congdom at DuPont.com

Everyday situations are narrated by the sexy voice of Amanda with several DuPont product placements in the videos. In a similar style to RocketBoom webisodes, they do not intend to be viral, but rather more educational and perhaps more in the tone of serious pro-bloggers, the ideal seeders to spread the word on DuPont Labs. I think they’ve got me, then.

As in any knowledge circle, those who are most listened tend to be a more credible source of information, so it makes all the sense that if you’re a company really interested in talking in the same language as bloggers do, you’d better off hiring someone who really “talks the talk and walks the walk”.

… the music scene is just starting to have fun with it. In a Modest Mouse show, Johnny Marr and David Cross did their own version of the dupped “One” song.

And, of course the copyright sharks are already sniffing.

Anger Management for Creative Directors

Pedro Bidarra, Creative Director from BBDO Portugal is well know for being a blood-minded type of person. But i guess this time he’s way over his marks.

(FYI, i post-edited the subtitles)

This video might have something to do with recruitment or to showcase the viral competences of the agency. Anyway, it’s funny to see the enormous ego of a Creative Director end like this.
