One of my favorite evangelists of this new communion of web and drawing is Kevin Cornell. Besides his work for A List Apart, he has also some great sketchbooks. It’s not often you get to see these kind of works on the web, so it was nice to discover Lapin, a French art director with works for Heineken, Vueling and several magazines.

His impressive city sketchbooks, beautiful pencil and watercolor illustrations, are an unordinary departure from the usual holiday photo album.

If you’re interested in visual note taking, i recommend Drawing on the right side of the brain or Rapid Viz. Other books i haven’t read but also highly recommended are Understanding Comics or the more recent Back of The Napkin

Meet Sally, a beautiful illustration living on a website (helloysoursally.com) that takes us back to our childhood days. The whole experience feels like an animated children’s book, with lullaby background music to make us company while we jump around with our keyboard within Sally’s online world.

Oh, the site is mostly targeted for children to promote Sour Sally Premium Frozen Yogurt, but it’s hard for grownups not to like it. If the quality of the website is a standart of quality, it must be a pretty damn good yogurt. Yummy Sally.

Claudio Jordão is a talented CG Artist and Motion Designer from Algarve, Portugal that worked with me for the past 3 years and has now opened his own studio Kotolab, together with Nelson Martins. One of the main reasons to go solo was his new animation project “Conto do Vento” (Tale By The Wind).

The whole story builds upon the concept of setting the wind as narrator, an idea that has been evolving since February. The companion blog (in Portuguese), documents the whole creative process, with concept boards, script descriptions, illustrations and entertaining videos.

From what Claudio has told me, this promises to be his most solid short animation, keeping the high standards of his previous work “Esperansia”, that you can watch at his personal website claudiojordao.com.

Each new collection has a brand new hotsite, with illustrations that spawn somewhere from Peter Gabriel to the world of TV series “Carnivale“. Even the corporate website has a wicked brit punk feeling !

This work awarded Cuarto Piso with Lapis de Acero, giving more visibility to the company that brought to life the website of renowned illustrator Catalina Estrada.
