Gringo.nu kicks some semantic ass !
Posted in Blogs, Interactive, Web Design on May 16, 2008 , with 1 Comment. My favorite Brazilian agency revamped their website with some (not) serious shit, on a fullscreen video where we’re all invited to teach and learn vocabulary. It’s like a speed course on swear words, that are collaboratively shared amongst the visitors.

The thing gets really nasty, so get your camera ready and help Gringo to grow their vocabulary. If you understand Portuguese, they also have a blog, with some interesting behind-the-scenes stories.
They really get their audience, not being afraid to push the language, even on a semi-corporate website (they were probably expecting some nsfw uses of the video experience). And most important of all is their overall message: it’s ok to fail.
Nokia 500 and The Black Box
Posted in Interactive, Online Advertising, Rich Media on April 22, 2008Who will come and get me? I’m entrapped on the new online game / video for Nokia’s GPS device, the PND 500.

Get a look at it and take the role of Christopher, who tries to sell his kites and gets in trouble while following the plot around a mysterious Black Box.
The interactive experience, from the folks who brought you The Passenger, is quite addictive so pay close attention and dare to solve the mystery. It took me a while (with a bit of help) but i survived to tell the story.
Immersive online narrative, impressive shooting and sound design. A winner.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
Posted in Online Video, Web Design, Websites on April 10, 2008Swiss company Jaeger-LeCoultre showcases their 75 luxury watches limited edition on a new website for La Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2.
Nothing really outstanding, but it’s a first for me posting a website on luxury items (maybe i just can’t afford this kind of stuff !? ). They did however a really nice work on the video, with an almost documentary film on the second part of the site, with the watchmakers history since Anthony LeCoultre and the manufacturing process, directed by Thibault Castan. And they got the embeddable video right (via DailyMotion), which you know, i find ridiculously obvious. Check below:

Unleash the Force
Posted in Interactive, games on April 4, 2008 , with 1 Comment. How about some gaming as a Friday time waster? Well, there’s always the new site from 2Advanced for LucasArts: The Force Unleashed.
Most gamers are all excited by this Star Wars release, that promises some kick-ass physics engine and might even attract not-so-serious gamers, like me. As for the site, lots of video and i guess some Perlin Noise actionscript for the menu fx, something like Ricardo Cabello (mr. Doobs) is doing here.
One thing that always pisses me off is why game/movie websites don’t usually have social features (embed videos, social bookmarking, etc). It sucks seeing a great trailer (above) and then have to look it up on YouTube to embed. Besides, a great opportunity is lost to track their content and interact with their audience with a branded media player.
